Kate Burke’s history series explains time banking—a system of time-based currency with a long history of people helping people by exchanging time rather than money for shared talents, skills, resources, and services. PPT presentation with handouts. TBR board members will be there to answer questions.

September

09/07  Class. New techniques with Alcohol Ink
5:30-7:30 pm. Mosaic Montrose.  Completed.
Learn new techniques. Paint with pearl, metallic, and mixatives on special black paper. Paint fall with inks and ink pens and collage. Both can be framed.
Materials, tools, and adult beverage or soft drink included. (Cash bar open for extra inspiration.).

09/11 Presentation. Ouray’s Goldfields & Bachelor Syracuse Mine

Kate Burke’s history series burrows into Ouray’s gold mining history. She shares tales of the men, the mountains, and the mines, including the Bachelor Syracuse Mine which today offers tours into Gold Mountain. PPT, handouts, displays of minerals and mining tools. Copies of book, Tales of the Bachelor Mine, from San Juan Publishing will be available. 

09/14 Class. DIY Fall Floral Wreath
5:30-7:30 pm. Mosaic Montrose. Completed.
Make a beautiful wreath for your front door that will last from season to season. Demonstration & Instruction. Tools provided. Includes grapevine wreath and lots of great materials to work with. Plus an adult beverage or soft drink.

Choose 2 wine glasses from various sizes and shapes to decorate with alcohol ink. (We’ll have extras if you need more). Demonstration, instructions, ideas, and all materials provided. Includes a glass of LaNoue DuBois wine (or non-alcoholic beverage).

Send me a pic of your pet, I’ll make a transfer for you, then you can paint your pet with acrylic paint on a 11″x14: canvas to take home. Demonstration and samples (of both realistic or abstract renditions), lots of instruction, and all materials, including canvas provided. Includes a glass of LaNoue DuBois wine (or non-alcoholic beverage).

9am-6pm Fri., 9 am-4 pm. Sat. Friendship Hall, Montrose Fairgrounds. With 4 Artists: Alice Billings, Kate Burke, Cathy Hartt, and Jessica Vergari. I will be making alcohol ink ornaments on Friday. Alice will demonstrate with liquid watercolor on Saturday Our group, Art by 4, will be in the SE corner.

10/23 Presentation. 4 Narrow Gauge Railroads, Silverton to the Mountain Mines
1 pm. Senior Center/Ballroom, Montrose Pavilion. Free.
Kate Burke’s history series explores the Silverton and San Juan Mining District and the trains that served it. Four narrow gauge trains traversed up to 7% grades, 30-degree curves, and passes over 11,000 feet to supply the mines, smelters, and mining communities. PPT, handouts, RR and mining displays. Framed photos and photo prints by Kate and James Burke available for sale.

11/27 Presentation. Otto Mears Other NG Railroads to the Silverton Mining District
1 pm. Senior Center/Ballroom, Montrose Pavilion. Free,
Kate Burke’s history series continues the saga of the 1880s narrow gauge trains that served the san Juan Mining District. Ride along with the Gladstone on the Silverton, Gladstone, and Northerly, and see how steam trains climbed over 11,000 feet to Animas Forks, one of the highest mining camps in North America. San Juan Mining District.

Everything provided including grapevine or metal hoop wreath. Lots of florals and decorative stuff plus ribbon, floral wire, and tools you need to work with it all. Plus you get Christmas Cookies and a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Cash Bar, too, if you need more creative inspiration. Discount if you have previously attended my classes.

Kate Burke’s history series explores explains the how this narrow gauge railroad conquered Red Mountain Pass and the nearly impassable 21.5-mile route between Silveton and Albany in Ouray County. In less than 8 square miles, the Red Mountain District, at its peak, had over 3,000 people and 40 mines! [Story]
