2021 Montrose County Fair Art Show
Under the direction of MCA’s Event Coordinator, Kate Burke, the 2021 Montrose County Art Fair was “the biggest and best ever,” according to many who came to view it, and the artwork exceptional.
Getting the show set up was a community affair. Assisting Kate with organizing and hanging the show show were MCA artists Margaret Kauffman and Sandy Martin, along with new MCA member Secret Greenfield, Lissette Riviere from Partners, and Cynthia Harwood from Time Bank, and Marilyn Huesby from the Montrose Senior Center.
As the saying goes, “It takes a village,” and in this case it took a big village to manage hundreds of entries coming in over two full days in Advanced, Amateur and four Student Divisions. What the show lacked in pre-organization, it definitely gained in enthusiasm.
A plethora of ribbons and Best of Shows decorated the Advanced Division exhibit, with watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, digital art, photography, and digital painting by MCA artists Sandy Anderson, Joyce Baker, Alice Billings, Virginia Blackstock, Secret Greenfield, Natalie Heller, Susan Humphrey, Kathleen Molesky, Cheri Isgreen, and Helen Pemberton.
Artwork by others in both Advanced and Amateur divisions drew admiration and attention of Kate and her MCA helpers, who requested the artists join MCA. The stunning best of show by Tanner Williams resulting in asking her to intern with MCA to assist with graphic design and social media marketing.
Kate has agreed to manage the show again next year, and will be asking for donors to support it and volunteers to help plan and organize it, starting well ahead of the deadline dates, then help hang it with sufficient time to do it. Due to Covid, the 2020 show was mostly a “no-show.” Kate was asked to head this one just days ahead of the event, trying to tie up a lot of loose ends. MCA is hoping to again score big for 2022 with lots of ribbons and awards.
